With four of my siblings married and two of them with growing families, holiday activities can be hard to coordinate between work schedules and in-laws. This Christmas we decided to hold off on gifts and, instead, spend a weekend away together after all the holiday rush had come to a close.
We decided to rent a cabin at Standing Stone State Park in my home state of Tennessee, so we packed our bags and loaded up, dogs and all, and headed to the woods for the weekend. We played games and ate and hiked and ate and watched a movie and ate some more. I feel like we started eating when we arrived and didn't stop until we left. There's something about hiking in the cold that makes you hungry, especially when you're carrying a 2-year-old on your back.
I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of hiking in freezing weather, but we all had a good time. As my nephew, Daniel, said, "Good walk. Good walk."
